Danena Sicily, Sicily, Italy
Benvenuto in Sicilia… a vibrant land of many wonders. From white sandy beaches with turquoise waters, to one of the tallest and most active volcano in the world, to ancient cities filled with stunning architecture and endless charm, to breathtaking natural beauty… this island has an abundance of treasures, and we will be exploring as many of them as our hearts desire.
Our base of operations for this adventure will be the wonderful Danena, After invigorating daily morning practices, we’ll venture out to explore the ancient towns of Noto and Siracusa, two of the six Sicily’s UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Sicily. And after getting our fill of stunning Baroque architecture and other mind-blowingly beautiful sights, we’ll head back to Danena for a late afternoon restorative practice and meditation, followed by a wine tasting-paired dinner at a local vineyard. Not a bad way to wind down your first full day in Sicily. Day three will begin much like Day Two, only instead of a post-practice brunch, we’ll grab a bag lunch and head out for Mt. Etna, Europe’s tallest volcano and another of Sicily’s UNESCO sites. On our way to the summit, we’ll hike through beautiful woods and orchards and see ancient lava flows, and if we’re blessed with a clear day we’ll also be blessed with a breathtaking view. Then, after soaking it all in, we’ll hike down and head back to Danena for a relaxing sound bath before indulging in another delicious and nourishing homemade Italian dinner. Whether it’s a game of bocce or bedtime after that, or some other adventure, is up to you. You may not want to stay up too late, though, because… Day four will offer no shortage of excitement. After another vigorous morning practice, we’ll eat a little breakfast, then head out to the beach of San Lorenzo, a little Mediterranean oasis along Sicily’s southeastern coast. We’ll take our time to enjoy the sun and sea, and when the time is right we’ll find a soft patch of sand for a little afternoon beach yoga session and sunset meditation. From there we’ll cruise down to the charming seaside village of Marzamemi for dinner and a little evening stroll through town before heading back to Danena and calling it a day. Day five will begin with another invigorating morning practice, followed by brunch. From there, we’ll head out to Cava Grande, an absolute gem of a nature reserve near the southeastern coast. An adventurous hike down through a stunning canyon will lead us to a series of lakes and waterfalls where we’ll be free to frolic to our heart’s content amid wild Sicilian natural beauty. Then, when it’s time, we’ll head back to Danena for an afternoon yin yoga and mediation session, followed by a night of pizza making at a local farm. Day six is meant to be a day that affords you an opportunity to tend to your own needs. After another vigorous morning practice and brunch, you’ll have the rest of the day to do as you please. You might enjoy relaxing by Danena’s heavenly pool (pictured on the flyer), taking a walk through the orchards, getting a massage or other spa treatment, or even venturing out to explore a little on your own. There will be an optional cooking class in the afternoon, where you can learn to make ravioli like a pro, and later we’ll have a light sunset stretch and meditation, followed by another delicious homemade Italian dinner. As the cherry on top of an already extraordinary week, your last full day will begin with another invigorating practice and a delicious brunch, followed by a boat cruise around the southern coast, the beauty and exhilaration of which will quite possibly blow your mind completely. But don’t worry, our drivers will be there to ferry us safely back to Danena, where we’ll have one more restorative practice and meditation before a final homemade dinner accompanied by a little live entertainment. Day eight will bring one last morning yoga practice followed by a final breakfast, and then, my friends… with your minds and bodies restored, and your hearts and heads freshly filled with inspiration and awe… it will be time to say Arrivederci to this vibrant land of many wonders.
