After falling in love with Ortigia last year, Dages returns to this sun-drenched palimpsest of an island—Greek temples inside Baroque churches, a Jewish mikvah hidden for hundreds of years beneath a spiral staircase, Arab gardens beneath Norman fortresses, 2,700 years of human desire pressed into honey-colored stone. Here at midsummer, fruits split open with sweetness, the sea glitters like crushed diamonds, and history reveals itself in every shadow and archway.
